2008 M2 Gallery Show, construction:deconstruction

I began my work for this show with the intent to study the cycle of construction and deconstruction from the role of the "observer". The material (paint, shapes, images, text) in this series suggests connections of the "build up/break down" cycles to relationships and self-actualization, war and peace, the natural environment, and industrial development. In my observation you´ll find that one experience rarely exists with out the contrast.

Interestingly, creating this body of work has parralled the concept entirely. On most days I started my day with a journal entry on topic. I utilized a variety of techniques to move the paint onto its surface and as I did so found myself in an evolving process of constructing and then reducing or deconstructing the compositions, images, shapes, and color patterns. My toolbox includes a range of materials; graphite, gouache, acrylic, pastel, oil, wax, plastic, wood, metal, collage paper, stencils, and found objects.

The work in my exhibit is largely about "mindfully watching" the passage of time and the cycles of creation and destruction in as intuitive and natural a manner as the passage from day to night, sun to rain, or season to season.
